Every appliance's cost comes from one formula: watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used = units (kWh), multiplied by your home's marginal rate — for a 151–400-unit/month household the next unit costs about 4.69 THB/unit (incl. the May–Aug 2026 Ft and VAT). The biggest bill-makers in a Thai home are the air conditioner (high watts × long hours) and the shower water heater (highest wattage in the house), while a fridge running 24 h actually uses only ~0.6–1.4 units/day because the compressor cycles. How This Table Is Computed (Methodology)
Formula: units/month = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours/day × 30 days, then × the marginal rate ≈ 4.69 THB/unit (151–400-unit base tier + Ft 0.1623 + 7% VAT). Every figure is drawn from the official tariff tables — no re-typed constants.
Wattage ranges: typical spec ranges for Thai-market models (nameplate / EGAT Label No.5). They are deliberately ranges, not single numbers — quoting an exact watt without knowing your model is false precision.
Duty-cycled appliances (fridge, freezer, dispenser, aquarium): priced on the 24-h average draw, because the compressor runs intermittently — multiplying full nameplate watts by 24 h (as most listicles do) overstates a fridge's cost 3–4×.
Air conditioners: non-inverter input ≈ BTU × 0.083–0.105; inverter units settle to ~40–60% of rated once at setpoint. Table figures are the continuous-run upper bound — the full method is on the aircon cost page.
Why marginal, not average: the residential tariff is tiered, so each appliance's units are billed at the highest tier your home reaches — not at the bill-wide average. A 151–400-unit home really pays ≈ 4.69 THB for each extra unit; full reasoning on the why-is-my-bill-high page.
