PEA Smart Plus vs MEA Smart Life — What the Utility Apps Do, and How to Link a Meter

The two official utility apps — which is whose, how to check the bill, pay, report an outage, add a meter, how many you can add, and what to do when you can't log in or forgot your password. Everything here cites the official PEA/MEA pages and app-store listings directly.

Pick the app by your home's "utility area" first: in Bangkok, Nonthaburi or Samut Prakan = the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), use MEA Smart Life; in any other province = the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), use PEA Smart Plus. Both apps are free and should be downloaded only from the official App Store / Play Store. They do similar things: check the bill and usage history, pay, generate a QR/barcode to pay, and report an outage. Getting started means "linking a meter" using the numbers printed on your bill — full details below.

What can PEA Smart Plus / MEA Smart Life do?

Both apps cover the main electricity tasks in one place: check the bill and usage history, pay, generate a QR/barcode to pay, and report an outage. The table below compares features from each app's official information.

How do you add / link a meter in the app?

Linking a meter tells the app which meter's bills to show, using the numbers printed on your electricity bill. Four steps; you can add several meters to one account (home + workplace + parents' house).

  1. 1) Get the right app + register

Install PEA Smart Plus (provinces) or MEA Smart Life (Bangkok/Nonthaburi/Samut Prakan) from the official App Store / Play Store only; on first use it asks you to register and verify your identity.

  2. 2) Find the numbers on your bill

Have your customer number / contract account (CA) and meter code ready — both are printed on the bill. Not sure where to look? See how to read your electricity bill.

  3. 3) Tap 'add premises' and pick a method

PEA Smart Plus offers 3 methods: (a) type the customer number + meter code from the bill, (b) type your national ID number, (c) scan the QR / barcode on the bill. MEA Smart Life takes the contract-account number + meter code, or scan the QR code.

  4. 4) Add several meters

Once added, each meter shows as its own item on the home screen; you can add several and remove them later — handy if you manage bills for several homes. For the real maximum, go by what the app allows, or ask PEA 1129 / MEA 1130.

How do you check and pay the bill in the app?

Once a meter is linked, tap it to see the amount due, the due date and usage history; to pay, tap pay in the app — PEA Smart Plus supports credit card and bank account. Both apps also generate a QR/barcode you can pay with at a counter or convenience store.
The app is just "one channel" — there are also counters, convenience stores, banks and direct debit. For every channel with its pros and cautions (fees, refund of a double payment), see how to pay an electricity bill.

Is my home in PEA or MEA territory — which app?

Decided by address: in Bangkok, Nonthaburi or Samut Prakan you are an MEA customer → use MEA Smart Life; in any other province you are a PEA customer → use PEA Smart Plus. The surest check is whose name the bill is issued under — MEA or PEA.

PEA Smart Plus — PEA (provinces)

For customers anywhere in the country outside MEA's three provinces. Download from the App Store / Google Play (search "PEA Smart Plus"). PEA hotline 1129.

MEA Smart Life — MEA (Bangkok area)

For customers in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan. Download from the App Store / Play Store (search "MEA Smart Life"). MEA hotline 1130.

Can't log in / forgot password — how to fix (+ fake-app warning)?

In order: (1) tap "forgot password" to reset via your registered phone/email; (2) update the app to the latest version and check your connection — an old build sometimes fails to log in; (3) if identity verification fails or your number changed, call PEA 1129 / MEA 1130 (24 h).
⚠️ Beware fake apps/links posing as the utility: install only from the official App Store / Google Play. The utility does not send links to sideload an app, does not ask for an OTP/password by phone, and does not route payment through odd links. If you have arrears or a cut-off, read the real rules at disconnection rules; to change the account name, see electricity name transfer.

Who wrote this page

Compiled by the CapSolar team, a commercial solar provider in Thailand, reviewed by Frank Lee (Founder). Every feature and meter-linking step cites official PEA/MEA pages, the app-store listings and the PEA Safe-Thai guide, whose accessibility we verified as of Aug 2026 (links below). Where the official pages state no exact number (e.g. the maximum meter count), we say plainly to go by the app or to call — nothing here is invented.

FAQ

Both PEA Smart Plus and MEA Smart Life are free to download and use, and safe if installed only from the official App Store / Google Play. Beware fake apps or links claiming to be the utility — it does not send off-store links and never asks for an OTP/password by phone.
